The design concept of the Feliz Villa Suite was inspired by the desire to create a presence that does not stand out, but rather merges with the natural environment. This was achieved by erasing the heaviness of non-natural building materials, allowing guests to fully appreciate the magnificent nature of Irabujima. The villa's unique properties include a raised floor surface to ensure an unobstructed view of the sea and sunset, and an entrance approach illuminated by indirect lighting, creating a sense of anticipation.
The villa is enveloped in reclaimed walnut, surrounded by large natural limestone, which not only provides excellent privacy but also integrates the structure into the environment. Covering about 250 sq. meters, the villa features three bedrooms and bathrooms, a large open-plan dining/living area, a fully equipped kitchen, desk space, and a day-bed. The outdoor space includes a private swimming pool and Jacuzzi, a hammock on the deck, and a barbecue on the terrace, all enclosed by large limestone rocks, creating a resort-like environment.
The design details and art pieces incorporate the symbolic blue color of the island sea, sometimes referred to as "Miyako blue". Almost all furniture pieces were designed especially for the villa to match its unique personality. Details like the cushion covers incorporate traditional Okinawa patterns, further enhancing the villa's connection to its location.
The design project, which started in March 2017 and was completed in August 2018, faced the challenge of incorporating the simplicity and purity of the natural building materials to immerse the villa's guests in the nature of Irabujima. This was achieved through excellent landscape design and the use of traditional patterns and colors, resulting in a villa that offers a great panoramic view of the sea and an excellent retreat.
Inspired by the nature of Irabu island in Okinawa, Japan, the Feliz Villa Suite is more than just a building; it is a part of the island itself. Surrounded by natural limestone, covered in reclaimed wood, and decorated with unique art pieces based on traditional colors and shapes, this villa is a private retreat on the beach of Sawada. The design concept can be summarized by the following keywords: [nature] [symbiosis] [simplicity]. The focus of the architectural shape is full harmony with the topography and colors of the island, and the interior is designed to provide a simple and relaxing space without saturating the senses.
